U21 Croquet: 28 Players, 9 Countries, 1 World Championship
Declan MacPhee [Nottingham], Jack Good [Bowdon] and Sam Cuthbert [Cheltenham] are England’s three competitors in the Championship, who will all be hoping to bring home the title of the U21 Golf Croquet World Championship.
The championship will start on 14 April 2025 at the Sarasota Croquet Club, Florida.
Declan MacPhee (17) is one of Nottingham Croquet Club’s latest fast improving star. Nottingham have been running successful youth Croquet sessions to encourage more younger players to the sport. Declan has only played six world ranked games of Croquet, but he has won five of them, so he enters the tournament with an impressive 83% win rate. Having won the national Junior Championship in 2024, Declan is very excited to be representing his country at the upcoming World Championship. He says “I am excited to be given this opportunity and looking forward to the experience it will give me. Trying out different lawns and learning new things.”
Sam Cuthbert (19) has already competed on the World Stage, recently earning a place from the qualifying event to the 2024 World Championship. With partner James Death, Sam won the 2024 English National Doubles Championship and took home the prestigious Kate Jones Memorial, for winning the Second Eight 2024 Tournament. He’s not a stranger to winning, so Sam will be hoping for some good results in Florida.
Jack Good (18) has already made the headlines several times over the past few years. Having started his Croquet career at 11, he is Croquet England’s most improved player 2024 and was recently pictures with his 13 trophies from just one season. Jack will be well warmed up and prepared for the tournament having recently competed in the Openshaw Shield for England, the World Team Championship.
