A thank you from Dementia Carers Count

Croquet England chose Dementia Carers Count as the Charity of the Year, dedicating the National Croquet Week to the charity to highlight their amazing acheivements.

We received a heartfelt message from the charity thanking us for their support, which we are delighted to share.

England Croquet Club – Thank you

We are honoured that the England Croquet Club chose us as their Charity of the Year in 2024.  A big thank you to everyone who raised funds or donated to us during this year. Your support has enabled us to help dementia carers like Rosie, who found caring for her mum incredibly isolating.

Rosie’s life was turned upside down when her mum was diagnosed with Young Onset Alzheimer’s Disease. She was only 58. Most of Rosie’s friends were embarking on their careers and thinking of starting families, but she became a carer for her mum.

As a carer, Rosie often wondered if she was doing the right thing. She struggled to find help until she came across our charity and describes our support as a lifeline.

We answered Rosie’s questions about dementia, supported her to cope with everyday challenges and gave her the strength to navigate her mum’s ever-changing journey. We also connected Rosie with other carers so she had a support network of people who understood what she was going through.

Dementia is becoming one the biggest health challenges of our time. One in two of us will either care for someone with dementia or need dementia care ourselves. There are many carers out there struggling to cope on their own. We are here to help. Your support of our work is critical to enabling us to support more dementia carers.

If you know anyone who is caring for someone with dementia, please do share on our contact details. Our website www.dementiacarers.org.uk has lots of helpful resources and information and carers can also register to join one of our online support groups.

You can also share the number for our free and confidential Carer Support Line 0800 652 1102. Our friendly team is at the other end of the phone from 9am to 5pm from Monday to Friday and can provide practical and emotional support. We also offer free counselling sessions which can be arranged within a few weeks for more in-depth support.

Thank you again for your support of our work. We wish the Club all the very best for the year ahead.  Do remember, we are always on hand to help anyone who is caring for someone with dementia. No dementia carer should feel overwhelmed or alone.
