Euan Burridge [ENG] on fire at Golf Croquet World Championship

We have been following the progress of all our England representatives throughout the 15th Golf Croquet World Championship.  Burridge has impressed from the start and now has a place in the semi-final.

The tournament has already been such a huge success for the young 22 year old, we asked him how he is feeling heading into the final stages on the tournament:

“It’s been a pleasure to play in the event on such challenging lawns, I am looking forward to continuing to test myself against the very best and I am thankful for all the support from all over the world.” Euan Burridge

Messages of support are coming from the Croquet England committees whilst we all watch on in awe of the young man’s achievements.

“Croquet England warmly congratulates Euan Burridge on his fantastic achievements so far at the Golf Croquet World Championship, reaching the semi-final and already guaranteeing himself a coveted Worlds medal. We will be cheering Euan on for his semi-final and beyond, and enjoying the final stages of this festival of croquet which has been put on with such aplomb by the World Croquet Federation, the US Croquet Association and the Chesapeake Bay Croquet Club.” This comes from Dominic Nunns, Chair of International Committee, Croquet England.

Spectators from around the world have been gripped by the standard of play, from the whole field, but there’s no denying that Burridge is playing in a league of his own. The US Association Croquet have commissioned the event to be livestreamed through YouTube, meaning we have been able to watch Burridge take out the current World Champion in straight sets 3-0.

This followed a gripping match in the qualifying stages to the blocks where Burridge beat the current Women’s World Champion to proceed to the knockout.

Chris Clarke, Chair of Golf Croquet Selection Committee, Croquet England, sends his support and reminds us of the next battle for Burridge:

“Many congratulations to Euan Burridge on reaching the semi-finals of the GC Worlds with an exceptional performance against Jose Riva to win 7-5, 7-5, 7-1. He showed both patience and improved temperament whilst playing his best match of the event against a strong opponent who had eliminated Egyptian favourite Moe Karem in the previous round. Tomorrow he will face the daunting task of beating World number 1 Robbie Fletcher who has won 25 of his 26 games so far. I’m sure all CE Members will join me in wishing him the best of luck.”

Good luck Euan, from all your supporters and the team at Croquet England.
